The 2014 Challenge, day 9: Dalwhinnie to Ruigh-aiteachean (7)

The next pylon in the line was still standing; but the massive concrete blocks which have been used to anchor it give some sort of indication of the tension to which a pylon is normally subjected by reason of the weight of the power lines alone. Clearly, dismantling a pylon line calls for some pretty serious engineering!

Shortly after taking this photograph, I encountered a couple of walkers coming up from Cuaich. They were on their way to the far North for a bit of Munro-bagging, but had stopped for a quick out-and-back jaunt to Meall Cuaich to break the journey. We walked together as far as Loch Cuaich.
