From the track I was able to look down at the little lochan (pictured), and what really struck me about it was just how boggy the area all around it appeared to be. If I hadn't found and followed the break through the trees, I should have followed the trees round to the far end of the lochan and then tried to ford its outflow stream, cross that low-lying ground and climb up to the path I was now walking. Hmmmm. I think I might have got rather soggy if I had tried to do THAT.
