The 2015 Challenge, day 6: Dalbeg to Red Bothy (2)

Soon after the bridge, I passed Coignafearn Lodge - a most impressive building, which was shut up for the time being, but which is quite clearly opened and used from time to time. Like most such grand houses in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish Highlands, I assume it is used to accommodate shooting and/or fishing parties during the appropriate seasons. There are grouse on these moors, and presumably deer stalking is also available. I do not know whether the Findhorn is a salmon river, but I should be surprised if it was not. People pay handsomely to come to the wild, lonely grandeur of the Scottish Highlands to take part in these sports. Which is fine ... but of course, even if you can't afford the fancy price of a week's shooting, you can always enjoy the wild, lonely grandeur of the Highlands for free, any time you like, just by strapping a rucksack on your back ...
